Anyone work for an insurance company?

There are lots of different areas to work for.

The three main branches are Claims, Underwriting, Sales.

Claims and Sales are going to be dealing with the public.

Underwriters work more with the agents and adjusters -- very little with the public. The underwriting department develops new policies and determines which risks to accept. So if you apply for insurance and get rejected -- underwriting did that. They decided you were not an acceptable risk. They are also involved in setting the rates. It's a lot of paper work (from what I hear). Usually a 4 year degree is required.

Sales- is exactly that - selling the insurance product. Most people start off working for another agent. Maybe even a clerical position and work their way up. I'm not sure what the requirements here are. When looking for an insurance sales job...you have to be cautious. There are quite a few companies that will hire anyone and throw them out there on a straight commission job with little to no training.

Claims - what I do - adjusters. A 4 year degree is required. But it can be in anything. If you have a 4 year degree in underwater basket weaving - that will be fine. Just go to have the degree.

Adjusters investigate, negotiate, deny/settle claims as appropriate. You have to be able to Multi-task, be organized, think on your feet and handle stress and have good customer service skills. Remember, if someone is talking to an adjuster -it's because something rotten happened to them. Sometimes they take the frustration out on you.

Claims is a good job but a hard job and not everyone is cut out for it.

Insurance companies have quite a variety of specialties, so you would have to narrow it a bit. Are you wanting sales? Are you talking about financial/accounting? Are you thinking about claims investigations? Or HR? Admin? IT?

There are many types of jobs, each with it's own requirements.

Insurance companies hire people in with Bachelor's degrees, usually at a college job fair. Or you can apply directly.

You can also get a job at an AGENCY, learn about the business, without any degree at all, and then see if you can move over to a company.

FWIW, I MUCH prefer the agency side of the business.

If you want a sales agent career you need to get your state licence by passing a exam. Decide if you want to sell life and health or property and casualty or both. Start off with one, the exams are pretty tough. You don't need a degree for sales, just nerves of steel, compassion, ability to multitask, patience, and a prescription for xanax. Find an agency or broker to apprentice under or take you on and train you as you study for the exam. Best wishes.

First, let yourself be bitten by a vampire. This will qualify you to be one of those blood suckers.
