wendersca | Apartment Insurance? |
I live in the basement of a house. Am I covered on my landlords insurance policy, or should I invest in renters insurance? |

The landlord's policy will never, ever, pay a dime to you, ever. No matter what.
YOu need your own renters insurance. It's cheap - you can find it for under $150 a year.
Keep in mind, if the basement floods, the renters insurance doesn't cover it, either. Actually, FLOOD insurance doesn't cover any property stored below ground level - which is typically a basement apartment. You should probably know that. |

Consider this...
I want you to take a quick walk outside....just leave what you are doing right now and go outside really fast.
Once you are out there I want you to take a good look around, paying close attention to what you are wearing......then come back in and read below.....
....
....
Now just imagine that you went off to work one day and when you came home....the house in which you were living was burned to the ground and there was nothing left.....
so the only thing you had to your name was your car and the clothes on your back.
Now how much money would it take to get you back on your feet?
Consider this....
The landlord's insurance policy pays him to rebuild his house, BUT it does NOT PAY YOU ONE CENT to replace your stuff.
YOU have to have your own rental insurance policy to cover your stuff.
Now consider that renter's insurance is about $10-$15 per month....about the price of two or three trips to Starbucks.
Don't you think it is worth it consider all you have to lose and how cheap it really is? |

Renters insurance will protect your belongings, it isn't much. |

Depends upon your worldly possessions and their value and the risk involved like flood, fire, theft etc. I'm sure it won't cost you much but will give you the peace of mind. The home owner's policy might not protect your interest I'm afraid. |

No, your landlord's policy won't help you-- it is for HIS belongings & HIS building. You have to buy your own renter's insurance for your possessions. It is definitely a good investment- doesn't cost much per month for lots of peace of mind! |

Check with your landlord, but I would definately get renters insurance. Who knows what your landlord would cover. If you get it you wont need it, if you risk it you will, its called murphys law! |

you are legally covered but it is better to be added because just in case you do make a claim. It is not expensive and its always better just to carry it.Also if possible try and get your apartment and car insurance and see if you get a multiline discount. |
