Applying for Disability Insurance?
I came down ill with pnemounia and I've been unable to work for over 2 weeks or more. I was told that I have pnemounia in both lungs, from my doctor, plus I already have ashtma and a disease called polymytosis that I was diagnosis with back in 2001 (a muslce disease that attacks my lungs). I was told by my doctor to take shortterm disability on my job for awhile, due to me being so ill and that I needed to rest without stress. I called my employer, they informed me that we don't have short term disability, we just have long term, which means I would have to be out at least 5 months, before I could at least fill out the paper work for long term disability and then there would be another waiting period of several more months to get paper work approved. We all know that is impossible these days with the economy situation. Well I sit down and thought about it for a while and I was told that I should look into some disability Insurance, so I did that and a representative was nice and came out and we went through this long list of medical questions, plus its a 30 day waiting period, to verify my medical chart I'm assuming. Do I have to state my medical problems and if I don't will they find out? Could you guys please help me with some kind of advice on what I can do about my situation, due to my health and unable to work. I applied for Social Security Disability, but it impossible when you are very ill and need it to get assistance and people that don't need it can get it so easy.

Hello- I have been through this so maybe I can help. Most states have provisions for short term disability which you and your employer pay into if un-employment taxes are deduuted from your pay. First thing-try to contact un-employment office in your area.and se what they say. Secondly--make sure you have record of every Doctor you have seen since your illness started as this is important history to document your illness for a Social Security decision. Be sure to let your Doctors know that this situation is depressing you and they may refer you to a psych. which will help your case. Visit your nearest Social Security Office and get a rap going with whoover helps you---get their direct number and e-mail address as this will give you a direct contact with someone that knows whats going on---and you will eliminate all the idiots at the 800 number that dont know anything about you. Apply for SSD also because a decision is usually made within a few months versus about a year for SSD. I am assuming you have enough work history for SSD which is basically an early retirement because of disability and under that program your assets arent considered- SSI directly looks at what you have and is more like a Federal Welfare Program but it is standard to apply for both. If I ws you--I would fight for the SSD even if you are planning to try to work again---it is a safetynet that will be their for you if you get sicker. Most people like are denied their first disability hearing-standard government thing- but dont be discouraged as those benefits that you are seeking are retro-active back to the date of your disability----For me after my first denial--I used Binder and Binder to represent me----they charged me nothing up front and I wasnt even at the hearing----At that point I was due 40 grand; chemo was making me worse-and I was over my head in debt and red tape---They took a third of that off the top-SSI took a pay-back and the rest went to cover the credit card debt I dug in to live when this was going on.so it wasnt a windfall- but I am safe- I have Medicare to cover the Doctors and I can keep my home and cars--I work when I can and let them know but get a lot of leeway- Keep your head up !! Trim your bills and learn to like whats on sale in the supermarket--use your energy smart to get things done that help save you a a buck--clip coupons and match em up like a puzzle with your Sunday fliers and you can get through this. Be sure to keep your internet connection and if you have a fax machine that will save you effort too. BEST OF LUCK TO YOU------SD

Well to answer your question If your applying for disability and you do not tell them everything they will find out by looking at your medical records. and will be denied coverage because you did not disclose everything that was wrong with you in the interview.and if your dealing with SSD all i can say is good luck. I had a friend that fought with SSD for a year before getting SSD.

The insurance company will find out because they will order your medical records.

Call your state unemployment office to see if they offer any help. That might be a long shot, but it doesn't hurt to ask. Also, call your State's Labor Board. And, call your state and see if they give some kind of short term state disability.

And SSI does not always turn you down on the first try. It depends on your situation and your medical records. So, make sure you give them access to your medical records, all your doctors names, ect.

You can also apply for your state's welfare program. It was really meant for people like you. Don't be afraid to apply. It would really help you right now.

Good Luck.

if you apply for dis- you go 1st they deny then you file under a 1.04 a request for reconsideration, anyway if you need get a lawyer so when you file it can go to 2 years and when you get all back pay about 24.000 grand he only gets 25 percent like 5300.oo it is worth it, and its the way it works keep the process moving, plus when its time to see their Dr's you say if you can work ,if so but you cant without pain and agony. good luck

Yes, you have to state your medical problems. Obviously, any disability related to your existing medical problems won't be covered - it's too late, for something that's already happened. Yes, they will find out.

You can't buy the disability coverage AFTER you get sick - just like car insurance, you have to buy it BEFORE the bad thing goes wrong.

SSDI, has a TWO YEAR wait - you have to be disabled two years, before it kicks in.

Don't waste your time, you can't be approved. If it makes you feel any better, you probably wouldn't have been approved even before the pneumonia diagnosis.

SSDI is your best bet.
