I have a full time job but would like to gain experience and to a lesser extent earn supplemental income by producing for an independent agency with spare time after work and on weekends. Is that a common thing? My thoughts are that if I am on commission only it would not matter how much or little I am producing.

Places like World Financial Group and Primerica will typically hire anyone off the street with no experience or knowledge and let you work part time. Part of the reason our industry gets a bad reputation is having people that do it forever as a part timer and don't fully understand what they are doing and strictly do it for an extra pay cheque (meaning they are doing it for the commissions, and not to help people). Not trying to slag on those companies directly, they just operate more like a Milti-Level Marketing company trying to get more people to sign up to sell their products rather than teaching their advisors how insurance works.

You may however be able to find an advisor and work as a papart timessistant with a real company, where you can learn the ropes, etc and how the industry works and whatnot. That experience can go a long way when it comes to business planning and such.

You would still need a license. And, there are a lot of scams out there so beware. How would you be supplementing your income? Is it by selling? Or finding leads for an agent?

There are many problems with Primamerica. They tell you that you sell on commission but steal your leads even before you get licensed. You will not make any money there because all they sell is term life insurance and there is no money in that.

Better know what your getting into.

Most of them would. Heck, the majority of producers I've worked with, are in the office less than 10 hours a week, anyway. Your PROBLEM will be, with support staff. They'll only be easily accessable to you, during regular business hours. Plus, the company underwriters will be working normal business hours. So getting questions answered, and "gaining real experience" is going to be limited to the time you can spend with the csr's and underwriters.

If you have a decent agent at Primerica, in many cases, will know more than a seasoned agent in the industry.

Concerning the lead stealing, that is only if you have a dishonest up line. A good one will work them for you (and with you) and help you build it out.

Whom ever you go with, go with not only a company you can believe in, but also an up line you can respect and talk with.

AmeriPlan is a 16 year old Dental and Health Benefits company that provides a popular discount dental and health plan. Many Insurance agents looking for a good deal for their clients, come onboard as Independent Business Owners. However because the plan is not insurance, there are no license requirements.

Many have turned a part time gig with Ameriplan into a full time, 5 or 6 figure income. Why work for someone else when you can build a long term residual income and offer a avaluable service with AmeriPlan.
