No, I imagine that the National Insurance Office computer runs lists of numbers, presumably in some sort of order, if it's anything like HMRC. I assume they get allocated in accordance with people's dates of birth, although there may be a name alphabetical order somewhere.
When I got my number in 1964, they were allocated by the old Ministry of Labour, who had a list of numbers. To get your number in those days, you had to go in to register, and you got the next number on the list, irrespective of age, name, or address.
To the person writing about the last letter. That represents the quarter of the year the number is issued, so,for example, a number ending with an A would have been issued between January and March. It no longer has much significance, and as far as HMRC is concerned, is irrelevant. |

I am pretty sure that the last letter of the NIN is to do with what number sibling you are. My big sisters last letter is A mine being second is B and my little brothers is C, not sure about the rest of my siblings or anyone elses families so I can't be 100% sure. |

Uk nat ins numbers relate to the year your born. everyone is allocated a number in yr they are born, but not given till 16. |

No they don't. But you can (sometimes) guess if someone is older or younger because of the first two letters that have been used. |
