Hi,
I was wondering if there are any auto insurance companies that you don't have to pay upfront. I am seeking car insurance because I had an accident this January and I was at fault. I am a college student, so I am dead broke, but if the insurance can be billed for a couple of weeks then I could pay then but I need some car insurance in a hurry. I am mostly looking for collision with liability and rental discounts. If anyone can tell me a good auto insurance company please let me know. My previous insurance was Farm Bureau (their insurance sucks a$%).

If you are eligible for USAA I believe they will bill you for the amount. Eligibility has to do with being in the military or if your father/mother is in the military. Check out usaa.com for actual membership requirements. |

If you can get insurance, most insurance companies will allow you to make payments for a transaction fee; you will still need to pay the first month or two in advance. If you're a broke college student, and you're too ditzy to drive without crashing (was it the cell phone, makeup or a cigarette that caused it?), maybe you should consider giving up driving until you're more mature. |

Nope. Just like, there aren't any gas stations where you don't have to pay up front, and there arent' any places to buy cigarettes or even groceries, where you don't have to pay up front.
Insurance is a CONTRACT. A contract means, each side gives something. The insurance company gives a promise to pay, YOU give money. If you didn't give money, or if you give a bum check, the contract is NULL.
No one is going to give you rental discounts.
Sorry. Get a bus pass, if you already own the car, sell it. |

In addition to the bad news you've seen in the previous answers, you'll pay a major penalty because you've been without insurance for at least 5 months. Insurance carriers want you to carry insurance consistently, not sometimes. Added to that the fact that you had an at fault accident in January, and you're pretty high risk. So, you'll not only have to pay for the insurance; you'll have to pay heftily. After being without insurance for at least 5 months, after having an accident, and being broke, you've now decided that you must have a policy now. I agree that you need insurance, but your priorities are misplaced. You mostly need insurance to protect those who you harm--so, you need liability insurance first. Collision is far less important, and I can't understand the issue with rental discounts at all. Most states require you to carry liability insurance to keep your plates. So, please get the minimum so the rest of the driving public is protected. |
