Are there any over 40s life policies in the Uk?
Often there are ads on TV for guaranteed over 50s life insurance plans where everyone is accepted without a medical. Is there anything similar for over 40s?

Scullion is right in his remarks about the Insurance Coy playing the over 50's. Like every firm they are in business to make a profit and that means trying to get the whole market of differing age groups.
Now, it is clear to me that you do require Life Assurance for whatever reason; I would ask whether you are in a Trade Union because their members do get a better deal because of the cost benefits to the Company/Society so you should try that route first if applicable. Don't dismiss Insurance Brokers because they do the work to get you a decent policy at reasonable cost..
I spent 30 years in banking and I wouldn't recommend that you go the Banking route because they want the profit and will bug you for all other possible sales - Bank branches are Sales Outlets nowadays.
You seem to have a worry about a medical; you should jump at the opportunity to get a Free Medical (the Company pay for it if required). They may just satisfy themselves by a simple letter from your Doctor.
What I would do is to get a few quotes from the big companies. They will want to know the Capital sum; the Length of Time; whether it is With/Without Profits or just a policy for Whole Life. YOU are the only one who knows the answers to these questions. It'#s a pity you did not expand your question to show what your particular requirement is. Perhaps you actually require a Mortgage Protection Policy? if so you may wish it to be for a Reducing Term . . . ie as the years pass the amount outstanding on the mortgage will fall.
I further suggest that you go to the Search Engine to get the contact details on these Companies;_
Prudential Assurance; Legal & General; Standard Life; Norwich Union (Aviva); Scottish Widows; Ecumenical Assurance. There are many others but these are a good mix. ONE thing you should be asking for in the case of a With Profits Policy is the Estimated Maturity Value because this will show the individual companies investment policy for future earnings.
I realise I have said a lot but just keep re-reading then do the necessary

Most people in good health appreciate policies which underwrite. It is usually cheaper.

When there is guaranteed acceptance, there can be a higher overall cost for each individual person accepted on normal terms.

It is not a bad idea generally, as it would only mean that all the policies accepted are treated as if they are all impaired lives. This usually means that that they are accepted, but on special terms. In other words it costs more for everyone, not just those with 6 weeks left to live.

You may find that there are some exclusions for cases where you have been diagnosed with a life threatening illness.

welcome news
You have to watch these adverts - in most cases you have to live for over a year before you qualify for the benefits - otherwise you just get your money back.

You can take out proper life insurance at any aget - and probably get better cover than these 50+ policies - why not contact a local financial advisor?

your best policy is to try to get a life policy from your bank or try the high street , depending on your health and if you are married or not , you might get a good deal if you are married so you can both have one each, the permimum might be slightly higher . because your age.
good hunting

The over 50s policies do not offer any advantages - It's just a marketing ploy. You can usually do better by shopping around for a normal, bog-standard policy. No doubt someone will sell you a, over-40s policy if you ask around, but I really wouldn't bother.

The Over 50's Plan is for taking money off you for your future funeral plans, your lucky to get anything back at that age, its a ploy just to get money off the older people and can be a lot more expensive in the long run, my wife and I tried it and we found out the hard way, so i would suggest you ask a solicitor or your bank or go online and see if you can get a bit of a better deal. If you want one for funeral costs be weary. Otherwise leave it for now, you won't die for a while yet, maybe when your a bit older you'll get a better deal from some firm later
