Are you liable for a medical bill even if the name is completely wrong on it?

Additional Details
i got a bill and my name is spelled wrong on it, will i still be liable for it?

mbrcatz
Yes. If the service was rendered to you, you are liable for it. Someone misspelling your name doesn't get you off the hook for paying the bill.

Is it your bill? Does the company have your date of birth and social correct? If so, then you probably are responsible.

The name may be spelled wrong, but if you owe the bill then you owe the bill. Tell them to correct the spelling of your name so you are properly credited for your payment.

Damocles
If you received treatment, you are liable. If you did not, you are not. That simple. Doesn't matter if they misspelled your name. Now, if it was someone else, and they are hitting you up because they misspelled his name and happened to spell yours, then you have a reason to protest.

That would depend entirely upon whether or not you were the recipient of the medical treatment. Unless you want to be a leach upon society and have the rest of us pay it for you. It's not OK.

If you received the services for which you are charged, of course you are responsible for it. A misspelling does not relieve you of your financial responsibilities.

drwer2
If its your bill, and you had the medical treament or received the services for which it is for, then yes, you are liable for it.

if you received medical benefits, and dont pay for them, this is called "unjust enrichment" . Same thing if you find a wallet with money on the ground, with the persons name in it and keep according to the "finders losers" theory.....unjust enrichment.

but if its not your bill, you didnt receive a benefit, then No its not your bill.

now if they catch you......thats a different matter.......

if it goes for quite some time unpaid......and they find out youve been blowint them off...they can receive 3x in damages.......so pay up...

Rachel
Yes, substance over form.

If the service was rendered - then yes - you owe the bill. A typo does not mean you get free treatment.
