Your money will be safe. the bank has been taken over, not liquidated. Even if the bank had gone down, your savings would have been protected up to £35,000.
I wouldn't worry if I were you and don't rush to take it out either, its not at risk.

it's that train of thought that makes the problem much much worse than it is

As far as I know you're savings should be guaranteed by the government up to quite a substantial amount so I wouldn't panic just yet.

Have a read of this article, I hope it helps to clam your fears somewhat...

Eddy T
You savings is safe and 100%guaranteed by the government. No need to do anything unless you want to use it.

Current account savings are all protected by the Treasury. That is why building societies have high interest rates as they don't pay for insurance on your savings. As the bank is to be bought by Santander you'll still be covered so don't worry.

DF
do you have more than £35000 with them? that is the maximum amount that is guaranteed.

Stacey C
B&B has 2.5 million savers and the bank stressed this weekend that their cash is secure as deposits of up to £35,000 are covered by the Financial Services Compensation Scheme. Any savings above this amount are not protected. However, if the government takes over the bank, it is most likely to guarantee deposits as it did with Northern Rock.

silverbars
hi, after reading this question i thought you might be interested in looking at solid silver bars as either a short term or long term investment. I have a contact where i can get either 1 kilo or 5 kilo bars for a great price and have been dealing with them for quite a few years now and have never had a loss on this commodity. i have many references that you can contact as to my reputation and also i have a good standing with ebay with 600 plus positive feedback.if you are interested let me know and i am sure i can get you a very reasonable price. we both work from home and we sell on ebay and that is our full time job because the profit is so lucrative. my email address is gladstones1@live.co.uk.
kind regards

santander are taking over and theyre really good.dont worry about it as long as you dont have more 35k savings and 49k investments

Becky M
Its been taken over by Santander who are ok as far as I know. I wouldnt move you money, I mean everyone panicked about Northern Rock and they are still going. You could move it if you're worried but putting it anywhere else could be just as risky at the moment.
