Can I be covered under my parent's health insurance if half-time?
I'm a senior undergrad student set to graduate in December. Since I'm done with all my requirements I am enrolled half time in school and I begin grad school full time in January. I am currently under my parents insurance and my dad says he's not sure if he can't cover me if I'm half time and not full.

Is this true or can I be half time at the least? Next year I turn 23 so I know I have to pay for it myself but since I'm half time now and will switch back to full time once I start grad school in the January will that work so that all that I need to do is submit a form saying that I am enrolled in school? Thanks.

All plans are different either ask the plan administrator or read the plan.

He must check with the insurance company. Most require full-time status though.

It's entirely dependent on which insurance company, which plan, and the terms the employer has with the insurance company.

No one here could possibly know. You'll need to call the number on the back of your card and ask.

you will need to check with his insurance. they all have different rules. my dad could only cover me if i was full time and even if i was full time there was an age limit (i think it was 21 or 22)

If you are in college, you may want to check out health insurance programs that are written through your school. United Healthcare has a plan available at many US schools. These student injury and illness plans provide wide ranging coverage and are designed to be affordable for college students. To check if your school is participating, go to www.UHCSR.com and enter your school name in the search box. You might also be interested in joining the American College Student Association (ACSA), a national organization for college students. They have lots of member benefits, including student health insurance. Their membership fee is affordable. As you approach your Graduate studies, you might benefit from a program through the National Association of Graduate & Professional Students (also through United Healthcare).
