Can I cancel my husband's health insurance if.............?
he's offered health insurance at his new job? (My insurance at work is a group health insurance)
Yes you can and you should. First make sure that the new policy is in force and that all pr existing conditions , if any, are covered.
leslie
Find out which one of you have the better insurance plan. Does it include Rx? Dental? Look at both policies before you cancel anything.

Yes, it is a life change event. Talk to your HR rep.

We do not consider this a qualifying event (under our self-funded ERISA plan). We would normally require that you, as the employee, maintain health insurance on both of you until open enrollment. (However, just because we don't consider this a qualifying event does not mean that your employer feels the same). Ask your Benefits Department if this is acceptable as a qualifying event and, at the same time, request a certificate of creditable coverage for his insurance. He'll need it.
Another option for you to consider is whether he can pick up his insurance following your open enrollment period, if you drop him at that time. That WOULD be a qualifying event.

Yes. That is usually a qualifying event.

That would not normally be considered an event which qualifies for change of terms during the year (unless it's open enrollment time). The only time it would be considered an event which would qualify is if your husband had health insurance at his former job and then was kicked off the insurance (then you could add him to your policy at work).
