I live in Pennsylvania and my place of employment just recently closed its doors due to the poor economy, I have been working there since June 2008. What do I need to do to collect unemployment?

~~A lay off allows you to collect unemployment without any penalties. Sounds like you worked long enough to pay into the fund to collect, so you will be eligible.
Contact your employment development department. Many allow you to apply on line.
You can search for your county office, or if no luck there , check your state's website and it should have a link.~~

u should be able to get unemployment. it wont be much and may take a while to get started. i live in alabama and got mine started when i signed up, but now there is about a 3 month wait because they are backedup on paperwork. do an online search for pennsylvania unemployment and u should be able to find their website. here we can file online. if u cant, u should be able to get an 800 number or find the nearest office. good luck!!

Go to the local office of the State Dept. of Employment Security and apply for unemployment benefits. You may or may not qualify, depending on your states rules and regulations. But you may be able to qualify for a job through the unemployment office.

You just need to take your id, with you and file for unemployment. The amount you receive is based on quarterly earnings the past year and a half. It is really very simple and nothing to be nervous about. They will hold your hand and help you through it, and it shouldn't take no more than about 15-20 minutes. Keep track of when you started working for that company and the last day worked.
