Can I expect my insurance to pay for a new kitchen?
My kitchen floor was wrecked by a leaking dishwasher. The kitchen units have to be removed to replace the floor, can I expect a new kitchen as part of the settlement as the old kitchen will not fit properly after the new floor is laid.
Sounds like a case of violin players syndrome to me. If they are daft enough to fall for that one, more power to your ELBOW.

they are gonna pay you to replace the floor and any damage that occured. if your cabinets that are on floor level were damaged, that should be covered. if they were not damaged then no. why won't they fit back in? are you replacing your old linolium flooring with tiles? if its because you are using a different material as flooring than what you had before, thats a CHOICE you made and therefore will have to eat the cost of new cabinets.

it replaces what was damaged, only what was damaged.
Harleigh
good luck with THAT!! The claim is only going to cover ACTUAL damage... if you get the urge to redecorate, that's NOT the insurance company's problem!

Probably not. This would be a covered claim, but you do NOT have to replace "kitchen units" as in cabinetry, to replace the floor. A good carpenter can make the old kitchen "fit properly" even if new subflooring has to be laid.

Nope, you are entitled to be returned to the position you were in before the loss, nothing more or nothing less. So if your floor was damaged, they fix the floor. If the floor you chose is not compatible with your kitchen fixtures then you are on for it. It's called embetterment and insurance companies have no obligation to you under that.

The point of insurance is to "put you back in the same financial position as you were before the loss"... no more, no less. The loss would only pay to replace the floor; to the same value as it was before the loss. If you want nicer floors, pay the difference. if the kitchen fit before, there should be no reason it won't fit now. Besides the point, they're not replacing your kitchen.

I am not expert in this field, but ethically I feel that you have get your new kitchen from your insurance company.
