Ralph | Can I get a claim dropped.? |
If I file a claim for water damage due to sump pump failure which turns out not to be covered on my home policy can I get the claim dropped and removed from record? |
|

NOPE! Once you file the claim, it's stays on record. They use this information to evaluate your "risk factor", whether it's a payable claim or not.
I've learned through trial and error to contact my agent and discuss the possible outcome of a claim (ie: is it covered, will it increase my premiums, possibly get my policy cancelled, etc...) BEFORE filing the claim. |

More than likely, it will show up on your record as a $0 claim. Meaning you filed a claim, but nothing was paid. |

Nate is correct. It cannot be "dropped" after it has been filed. However, it will show as a zero loss. |

No. They'll just reject it, but they will keep a record of the claim forever. |

Well, you can ask them to close the claim, but it's NOT going to be removed from your record.
Someone posted about a claim like that a few days ago . . I know I advised the pump wasn't covered, and water damage *might* be covered IF you had backup of sewers and drains, but FLOOD is not.
You should have checked with your agent to see if they thought there would be coverage, before filing. |
