assassin | Can I get life insurance on my mother without her knowing or signing anything? |
I recently got a scare when my mother was admitted into the hospital from smoking complications. She was having trouble breathing and she was put on a respirator. The nurses and doctor kept saying her lungs were not healing themselves because of smoking for so many years. Thank god she pulled through and they gave her the normal things to take home like medicine and oxygen to use. She unfortunately still has not stopped smoking and my brother and me were really scared. My brother just turned 18 and we have no other family at all, my mom is not married and I wouldnt have been able to afford a funeral if it came to it. My mom is very stubborn and she will not get Life Insurance to help for funeral costs if something were to happen again. "Is there a way to for me to get Life Insurance on my mother without her knowing or signing anything"? |

Sorry to hear about your situation.
No you cannot take out insurance on someone without them signing the application as well as them directly answering the questions (you can't answer them for her).
It's unfortunate that your mother appears to be so selfish that she will not try to help her family with the costs associated with her death. IT happens far to often.
Have you approached it from the angle that you will pay for the premiums? Paying the premiums for a policy on your mom would likely be a lot cheaper than the cost being dumped on you all at once. Taht being said, if she is having a serious health condition like her lungs shutting down, there's a good chance a life insurance policy would be declined or heavily rated anyway.
Your best bet was mentioned before. Start saving and pre-paying the funeral. |

I am sorry for your situation.
No, you can not get life insurance on someone else without their knowing. Besides that in her health condition no insurance company will even take her.
I am sorry to say, but your best bet is to start pre-paying on some funeral expenses. Decide what kind of funeral you want, if any. Do you want a burial which would be expense? Or, a cremation?
Try speaking to a few funeral directors and ask them for a price breakdown of their services.
I would not discuss the subject with your mom since she is not understanding what is happening anyways, or it just doesn't help anyways.
You may want to post another question on the family category to get some help in dealing with your situation.
Remember, we all get through tough times somehow. You will too. Just hang in there. You need to take care of your brother and yourself too.
Now might be a good time to get connected with your religious organization to get some help and support. |

When you fill out an application, it will ask for her health history (smoker, hospitalization within the past x years, etc). This will prompt a physical exam which she will probably fail based upon your statements. So, getting a policy without her knowledge may not be possible in this scenario.
As far as getting insurance without her knowledge otherwise, I don't think so. It's to prevent family members form purchasing huge insurance policies and knocking off the insured for the money. I want to know why my wife is knocking me off!
You'll have to talk to mom and try to convince her that something must be done when the time comes. It doesn't sound like she has many assets. Does she want to become a medical cadaver at a medical school? Very cheap solution. My aunt did that. They came and took the body, used it for training, and in a year they have a brief, respectable, dignified service and cremated it. You get the ashes back if you want them.
Now, you can change beneficiaries on YOUR policy without anyone else's knowledge. |

No. Your mother has to sign the life insurance document. You cannot purchase life insurance on an other persons life without their signature. To be honest with you the insurance companies will probably not insure your mother due to her medical history. Even if they do because she is a smoker her rates are going to be sky high. To be honest with you, even if your mom were to sign a life insurance policy, and she was approved for coverage. I doubt that you could afford it. |

Because her lungs are in such poor condition and shee is smoking, it is unlikely that you would be able to get life insurance on her, even with her signature. |

No, you cannot. |

No. You need her permission, AND cooperation. |
