It depends on what you mean by a "lot of money." Frankly, you're not going to get rich selling insurance -- but you can make a comfortable middle-class living.
The problem with ANY sales job is that you have to constantly find new people to sell things to, and new products to sell to the people you've already sold to. Think about it, even the most cautious among us only needs so much insurance...then you've got to find new folks to sell to. Have you ever sold *anything* before? Sales, especially of "non-essential" products (sorry, but insurance is a good idea but not essential) is tough. You're going to have to pitch to hundreds of people to make one sale, you're going to have to be able to handle a LOT of rejection, you have to have a good personality and smile no matter how many people tell you no...it takes a certain kind of person to be a good salesman. I agree with Rich on this. Your network of friends and family is the BEST place to start. Beating the pavement when you have a network of friends is a waste of time. The great thing about insurance is that you don't have to always find new people to sell things to. Once you establish a book of business, you will have residual income. Most of your clients will stay with you for years.
The most important thing is to be thankful for the business and let them know. Service your customers and they will stay with you, and even better, they will refer you to your next client.
Oh and the money. There are ups and downs, but for the most part, it is great money.

DO NOT start your business this way...Go beat the pavement and hand out your business card to EVERYONE you meet. Even the YL at the grocery store checkout. If you start calling all of your friends and family looking for business you will end up losing some of your friends, and your family will avoid you. Also, your family will feel undue pressure to give you business to help you. Many of your family members will switch to you over time as they see you succeed on your own. IT IS perfectly appropriate to send out a mass mailing letter telling them about your 'new business venture' and asking for a referral if they know anyone shopping for insurance. Please do NOT ask your family and friends directly for business...they will feel put on the spot and it will hurt your relationship with them. If you are outgoing, Professional, and well organized providing good customer service you will have no trouble getting plenty of business. Good Luck to you! |

You can, there is alot of successful people out that are doing it on a daily bases. But in return it has alot of work involved in the matter. I have another way to make money in a similar fashion. This is the best business to get into becuase EVERYONE NEEDS INSURANCE!! Go to some classes, get your license first. Then get your CIC (Certified Insurance Counselor). GOod luck to you! |
