takemebackintimeagai... | Can I qualify for insurance if I had a lapse in coverage? |
I have heard if you have insurance you cannot be turned down for insurance as long as you are going from one to the other with no lapse. I have had some health issues and my husband may be losing his job..if we are without insurance for some time, can the new insurance for his new job deny covereage to me? |

Assuming you're talking about HEALTH insurance, the answer varies. It matters if it's individual insurance or group insurance, it matters how long the lapse in coverage is, it matters what the condition is, and it matters which state you are in.
For a group policy, if you go more than 63 days without coverage from one group to another, the new group is allowed to exclude pre-existing conditions, EXCEPT PREGNANCY.
The answer is to buy the cobra coverage if it is offered, from the old job. |

If he is going to be joining a plan through work, they cannot deny you insurance. However, they can refuse to pay for some specific problem that started while you were uninsured and that need treatment within 12 months.
When your husband loses his job, you have the right to continue health insurance with his old job through COBRA. They will charge you more for it, but if you have serious health problems then you should consider doing that. |

No job can deny you insurance, because the main requirement is employment with the company. |

No...the company has group insurance, hence the insurance contract is between the company and the insurer and your husband is a member of the group. What they can do is, under certain circumstances, specify a waiting period for certain pre-existing conditions. These waiting periods can be a few months to a few years depending on the condition. |

They can deny coverage but I doubt they will just because you had a lapse. Typically they will deny if you have serious health risks- IE need a transplant, HIV, Etc. They will however, have a higher rate to put you on since you did have a lapse. |

depends on the policy at the new place of employment. |

If I understand your question you are referring to employer provided insurance which are group policy. In general with group policies the insurance carrier does not enjoy the pick and choose option that they would enjoy with individual policies. sometimes these group policies can be kept in force by your paying of the individual premium. Check with the State Insurance Commissioner of your state as to your option in your respective state |

Depends on the state and the plan. They won't necessarily deny you coverage, but they may not cover your conditions for a period of time if you don't have continuous coverage.
I think the more important question is why would you go without coverage at all? That makes no sense unless your crystal ball is fully functional. |

They could, but more than likely they won't, but you'll be charged more. |

i think a lapse in insurance just makes your rates go up. And they cant deny you for that reason. |
