Can I sell my health insurance policy since I haven't made a claim all year? ?
Does this make sense that since I've been paying for health insurance but haven't made a claim that my policy has accrued value... is there a way to get some of my money back from the insurance company?

No.

It's like, if you buy lottery tickets every day, and your number doesn't come up, can you get a refund.

Same thing.

You're paying a relatively SMALL amount, with the understanding that if something goes wrong, the insurance company will pay a potentially HUGE amount. You're buying COVERAGE. Which, you have had.

Can you get money from your car insurance company if you don't wreck or your home owners if your house doesn't burn down?

No, is the answer to that question.

BUT, you make a great case for getting an HSA plan, because then your self-insured portion of the plan would remain yours.

Doctor Deth
no, you can't sell it or get a refund. For one thing - it has no future value to sell - the unused portion in the past has no marketable value. with that way of thinking, when you do have claim, you should then pay all the medical costs, PLUS the monthly premium if you expect a refund when you don;t have any claims - one trip to the emergency room would cost you more than one full year of single coverage premiums - even if you pay the full monthly premium amount

No. Health insurance doesn't work that way. As a policyholder, you don't accumulate any "accrued value."

sweet
No. You have an answer for that, see you had asked "does this make sense"

On the contrary what will be your answer when the insurer ask you to bear the balance and pay only the amount you pay as premium!!!!!

Insurance works on the principle of law of large numbers wherein the insurer pays from the pool he had accumulated by way of premium. Imagine the medical costs nowadays, where you spend a lot towards consultation, medicines, lab reports etc., the amount you pay as premium is a meagre amount when compared to amount you receive in case of a claim.
