Can I take out a multi-million dollar life insurance policy on my spouse even if he's not worth that much?
And vice versa? We were talking about how it would be nice if one of us should pass away for the other person not to have to worry about working so that they can focus entirely on any children we have. Maybe 10 million or so? Is this sort of thing allowed?

Sure, if doesn't matter how much you are worth, just how much you can afford. If you can afford the premiums for multi-million dollar policies, and nothing else better to spend you rmoney on, go for it.

Sure

Its possible if you can afford it. My Senior National Sales Director earns about $3.7 million/year and he bought a 30 year level term with $40 million of coverage. He bought it when he was 40 years old and pays about $5000/year for it. His wife doesn't work, so she doesn't need coverage.

Its crazy because an average 30 year old would pay $1000/year for $100,000 coverage for a Whole Life Insurance. How much would it cost for a 40 year old to have $40 million coverage for a whole life policy? I don't know b/c I don't sell that garbage. I only sell term insurance.

It may not be possible. Insurance agents and companies look at your current incomes to see if they measure up to the amount of insurance your asking for.

Insurance companies do not want to give an incentive for anyone to commit a crime and/or anyone's death. They look to make sure you have an insurable interest in the person and the amount your asking for is reasonable and in line with your lifestyle. Or, they will ask why you want so much insurance. That is a red flag if you want too much insurance for your lifestyle, something smells fishy.

Weeding out fishy stuff is what agents and insurance companies call "underwriting" the policy.

The insurance company would have to agree to it.

There's no LAW against it, but an insurance company might not agree to it at all. Plus, that's a HUGE amount of money. Even $1,000,000 prudently invested conservatively, would bring in $50,000 a year in income. On top of social security survivor benefits, why in the world would you need TEN TIMES that? That's what the underwriter will ask, and that's the question you'll need to have an answer for.

Caveat Emptor
You can - with his/her concurrence and subject to medical underwriting. Just out of curiosity, how did you determine "how much he's worth"?

I'm sorry...I laughed at the way you asked the question..."even if he's not worth that much" lmao

To answer your question though, I'm sure it's possible.
