harley | Can My Car Insurance be cancelled for failing to provide my fiance's information? ? |
Here's the deal, My fiance does not drive my vehicle, and has her own.
We are not married, but ever since my insurance co found out I was engaged, they have badgered me for her s.s.# and information. That is
an invasion of her privacy at this point. She does not want to give that out and I don't blame her! She don't drive my vehicle. I just received a letter from my insurance company that they canceled my insurance for : Failure to provide information of additional household member. Are you kidding me? She don't drive my vehicle, and what am i suppose to do? She's not going to give up her info. were not married.
Should I get a lawyer? This doesn't seem right to me Can an insurance co do this legally? How is that protecting her privacy, which she is entitled to? sigh |

if you live in the same household they can.
when i was still living with my parents, and had my own car insurance, my little brother got in an accident in a car under their insurance policy. the people that hit my brother then sued my parents insurance company, and then they went after MY insurance company solely because i lived under the same roof. |

If she is living with you, then yes, they can cancel you for failing to provide that information.
You are required to provide that, for all household members.
Likely, they've gotten a report, that shows her as a licensed householdl member from the DMV - she listed the same address as you, with them. Unless her name showed up like that, or she was involved in an incident in your car, they wouldn't have any reason to suspect she was living with you.
But yes.
YOUR insurance has the 'right' to the operator information for all household members, OR, they can cancel you. |

You are supposed to provide information of all licensed drivers in your household. Yes, they can pretty much do what they want. |

You are required to tell your insurance company of any household drivers. If you do not want to add her as a driver you can ask them to exclude her from your policy. You just need to sign a form and they will do that. But then she will also not be allowed to drive you car. That is your only option.
Read your policy or ask your agent. |

It can be cancelled for any reason. All they have to do is terminate it. |

no. If she does not drive it, but if you live with another driver they can ask you.
My husbands company tried that with me, I called them myself and just told them I don't drive anymore. (which is not true, but I have my own car and own ins.) I also felt it was not their business.
Best of luck!
try contacting an insurance broker with a different firm, they will want your buisness and most likely help you find out. the cost of a lawyer does not make it worth it in this case. |
