I am married with two children. While my wife and I are in school, we will be on state insurance because we are making very little money. It covers near 100%. The college is going to charge us about $600 per semester for the two of us, and it doesnt include our children. They say it's mandatory, how can that be? |

A college can require you to have health insurance to be enrolled as a student. In fact, many colleges these days do.
However, they can't "make" you buy THEIR health insurance. If you can show proof of having comparable or better coverage through another source (such as a parent or spouse's employer, etc), then you can generally waive the school coverage.
If you do not have coverage through another source, then yes...they can force you to enroll in the school policy.
You should confirm with your school what the procedure is for showing proof of other coverage. Most schools have a deadline for showing this proof, or else you are automatically enrolled in the school policy and can't drop until the end of the semester. If your school has such a deadline, make sure you don't miss it! |

Yes.
You aren't required to go to that college. They are allowed to make you provide proof of a plan of your own, or buy theirs.
If you don't like it, you can go to another college. Sorry.
And $600 per semester for two adults, is dirt cheap. |
