If the "company" is your employer, then you cannot cancel the group health insurance for you, until open enrollment time comes around.

If you are talking about health insurance through an employer, that's correct. You can't drop your coverage "for no reason" except during Open Enrollment, which happens once a year.
You can drop your coverage during the year for a Qualifying Event (examples are birth, divorce, marriage, changing from full to part time, etc.). "Not being able to afford it anymore" is not a qualifying event - you'll have to wait until Open Enrollment. Sorry.

If its in your contract to have it for a set period then yes, then can say they wont cancel it. You would have to expect to pay it off in full.

Under employer plans you can only make changes to your insurance during open enrollment or during a change in status.
For change in status you would have to gain coverage else wear.
Not being able to afford it is not a reason.
