Can a hospital deny you of treatment if you don't have insurance?
My boyfriend desperately needs to seee a doctor for his severe headaches, he makes to much money to be on access and because he is a LEGAL american and he does not have insurance yet, I am afraid a er room would turn him down. Can they deny you at the hospital er if you don't have insurance?

systerfyster
No! They cannot turn him down, it's against the law! Goodluck to you and your boyfriend!

Sweetharttt
They will not deny him. They will see and assess him. They may make out a payment plan for him. He does sound like he needs to be seen and evaluated.

Best of luck to you.

Tell him to go to Maricopa Medical Center ER in Phoenix or Kino Hospital ER in Tucson if you live there, they will not turn him down and my help him apply for AHCCCS,or make payment arrangements. ER's will not turn down patients.

Go here and get coverage for him first

very affordable. Then take him to an ER and if he gets tests run or has to be admitted the health coverage will work with the hospital to give him a discounted bill for his total costs (ex. 30k down to 5 or 10k) well worth the investment.
Even without coverage he cannot be turned down. He will just ave a higher ER bill.

As per medical ethics NO.

No, most hospitals don't deny people without insurance as long as you tell them that it's self pay.

Though in most cases, the hospital will ask you to pay first, or draw up a payment plan (where you pay a downpayment first) before they go treat you.

If you tell them you can't pay, though, then it might be a different story. Some practices I know don't even accept patients if they self pay.

hospitals can deny you... if u walk up to the front desk and say you dont have insurance or money.

the ER.. i dont think the ER can deny you.. especially if u drop down and start shaking... even ur a homeless person. hospitals have to take you... but as soon as ur alright, they kick u out if u cant afford the bills...

No. But you will have to agree to pay the bills. Cash, credit cards or promise to pay will work.
