Doing the Right Thing

First of all, you don't buy life insurance. You have to be able to qualify for it. Life insurance companies will do medical tests and may test your blood as well.
So, to answer your question, yes you can get life insurance and you will have to pay first month premiums. When you sign the paperwork and the agent leaves the house with your paycheck, you are automatically covered. During the next 2-3 months, the insurance company will do its underwriting to see if you qualify for life insurance. If you don't qualify, your premiums will be returned to you.

getting a life insurance cover is pretty easy with a good plan
however it may get a bit tricky at times, I suggest you get as much information as possible online on this first,
a good place to start in my humble opinion is:

you will need to be off probation first before consideration by companies. I dont know of anyone offhand that will take you while on probation. |

Yes, depending on the policy and who issues it. You may be tabled a higher premium you may not. Some applications don't even ask about felony convictions. Keep in mind, however, insured or not, no policy is going to pay a death benefit if the insured dies while incarcerated in prison. In jail awaiting trial yes, but not post conviction custody. |
