Cheda | Can insurance companies make teens surrender their license if they cant afford insurance? |
ok im a teenager boy and my parents have decided to take me off the insurance because im having trouble finding a job and they cannot afford to pay insurance anymore.
Is it ok for the insurance company to force me to surrender my licenses because i don't want insurance anymore? |

No. If they can't afford the insurance, the insurance company cancels your policy. After your policy gets cancelled, the DMV cancels your license, IF you drive without insurance.
But your PARENTS can make you surrender your license.
In order for your parents to take you off their policy, they have to sign an EXCLUSION form. That means, no matter what, if you drive, you are NOT covered, and neither are the cars. That's kind of a big deal. In some states, that would mean the DMV would revoke your license.
It's not the insurance company being mean. Just like, I can't drive a Lamborghini becaues I can't afford it, you can't drive, because YOU can't afford it. If you get a job or start mowing lawns, and save your money, eventually, you'll be able to afford it. Bonus, you'd tend to be a more responsible driver, if YOU are paying your own premiums. |

Where I live it's illegal to drive without at least liability insurance |

MBRCatz had the right answer. Your parents can only remove you if they sign a driver exclusion.
Check with the DMV for the laws in your state. Every state is different. |

Insurance companies CAN NOT make you surrender your license. Some companies will cancel the policy or force your parents to sign an exclusion on the policy. An exclusion means that you are not covered under their policy to drive. The BMV WILL NOT TAKE AWAY YOUR LICENCE FOR NO INSURANCE. You do not have to prove insurance to get a license. You do, however, have to prove insurance to register and plate a car. My advice to you is to get a job and pay for the insurance. I'm not being nasty, that's just how life is. If you want to drive, you need to be responsible enough to have insurance to do so. Otherwise, you're stuck to the bus, walking, or getting rides from someone else. Good luck! |

No. But most insurance companies will not just remove a teenager because the parent does not want to pay for it. The reason being is because the the risk of a teenager driving is still there.
The insurance company I work for will not remove a youthful driver at the request of the parent unless the teenager surrenders his/her license. |

As long as you have a drivers license and live in your parents household - the insurance company will require you to be listed on the policy.
The insurance company does not require you to surrender the license.
Your parents can require you to surrender the license and stop driving - therefore, you are no longer a licensed driver living in the household. |
