I am the friend responding to his question. I do have my nails done professionally every two weeks. I am gloved and have very little skin contact with donors. This is a new policy my company is trying to pass. I don't agree with it, this is my personal right. I feel that the policy does not just affect me at work it affects my personal life hugely. I have never had a fungus and my hands are always clean. I just don't know if this is something they can do. It's not like ear rings, or tattoos, where you can remove or cover up your decorations. |

for health reasons u cant have fake nails on if you work in the dental department or otherhealth services.
tell us what you do and we could think of why u cant have fake nails. |

The company you work for can set whatever conditions it deems appropriate. They can't make you come to work and you can't make them let you work there. You work there because you BOTH agree to certain conditions. If YOU don't or THEY don't you won't work there anymore. The end. |

Sorry, but it's exactly like body piercings and tattoos. It's not that important to have your nails done. Just find a way for your nails to look pretty without having a bunch of unnecessary crap on them.
It's a sacrifice a lot of us have to make. You can't go to work looking like whatever you want to look like. There are rules. |

You never really told us what the new policy is.
But, you allude to your nails, so I am assuming they no longer will allow fake nails?
If you deal in health or food, then yes, your employer can make "personal" requirements. And, as I have no idea where you live and work, it could be a new health code or law that the employer is forced to follow.
Without more details that is as good an answer as you can get. |

You don't state what the policy is, but it sounds like you are asking about nail length or nail polish. In this case, yes, your company can mandate that you not wear polish at work, and yes, they can dictate maximum length of finger nails. It is a hygiene risk, as well as a productivity issue. Sorry, but that is how corporate america works. The company doesn't want to get sued because a nail punctured a glove or scratched a patient or caused you to mishandle equipment because you couldn't grip or touch it properly. |

You never told us what the new policy is? Are they trying to tell you that you have to have short nails? This is a policy in most medical facilities and that includes artificial nails too.It isn't a matter of the fungus but more the dirt and bacteria that can hide under the nail either natural or acrylic.I have been a nurse and we always had to have short nails and wear the gloves too.Any field that includes typing or some machines do require short nails and no polish too. It is part of a dress code ,somewhat like short hair or covering the hair and wearing it up.I hated that just as much but they have every right to ask these of their employers to be safe and provide a safe environment for others. |
