serin7300 | Can my husband's insurance company......? |
My husband's employer is changing insurance companies at the first of the year. They stated if your spouse can get insurance for $85 or less through their employer, then they will have to do so. Otherwise, they will continue to my coverage under him for an extra $35 a month. How would they really know? Can they actually call and get that information? I think that's personal. Also, they are a totally different insurance company. I wouldn't complain, but he has really good insurance and I have to go to the doctor everyonce in a while. My insurance that I can get through work stinks, but it doesn't really cost me that much unless I go to the doctor and then they sock it to 'ya. Thoughts.....? |

Yes, the insurer will be able to find out. And if you lie, they can kick you off the policy entirely. Its not personal information to find out whether or not benefits are available to you.
I wouldn't recommend lying, because there are probably penalties with your husband's company. (Depending on how his company decides to handle it, could result in him losing benefits entirely or even being terminated from employment.) |

I work w/medical insurance. It is call COB (coordination of benefits) We require spouse's to pick up their own insurance as primary and our subscriber (your spouse) would be secondary. Trust me you don't want to lie and say that you have no coverage thru your employer. They may not find out about if for awhile but when they do you will get the charges that they paid out of turn and you will have to pay it. My advice is pick up your coverage (crappy or not) use yours first then your husbands as secondary. FYI...all insurers are starting to work this way. |

I feel your pain. Been in the same situation.
But actually, his company is not even required to offer him insurance (unless he is in a union). Obviously, to remain competitive and get good employees, they have to offer it.
But they can make the determination as to what coverage for spouse or children is available.
You see - it actually costs his company much more than the $35 a month to cover you. And they absorb that cost themself. So what they are saying is - if your spouse is employed, then let her employer foot the bill for her insurance, instead of us.
Regarding how they can tell. Not sure they can call your employer. However insurance companies exchange information regularly. Read the policy very close - to make sure that if they do find out that you had coverage availbable to you - that it does not enable them to cancel or void your coverage with them. |

No one will validate your information, until a big claim comes along. Then the insurance company may deny any benefits and you are screwed. |

Everyone is right. This will come back to bite you in the behind. Not only will you lose your coverage with both policies but insurance fraud is a very serious crime. |

Their insurer will be able to find out, as explained above. The EMPLOYER doesn't know. |
