of course you can no hospital should deny you treatment but here is the catch you will get a huge bill in the mail. if your not working you can write a letter and ask for a hardship the hospital will sometime write the bill off, and by not paying it will affect your credit because they will ask you for your social security number at admissions.

In an emergency, medical professionals are not allowed to refuse care. However, if you go to the ER with a hangnail, they can refuse to do more than make sure you're stable and not in imminent danger.

It depends on the hospital. On most public hospital, yes. But if you don't have insurance, you will have to pay the full amount for the treatment you receive.

Hospitals must treat a patient regardless of financial means, as noted above. When an emergency facility treats a patient that does not have coverage, they will try to collect what's due to them. There is a medicaid coverage (government funded HMO) they can try to arrange just for those that do not have coverage. Patients should inquire about it.

See the link below for more information.

If it's a life threatening emergency, any hospital has to take you. If it's not life threatening, most metropolitan areas have 'county hospitals' or the like, who will take you in and treat you with no insurance.

They'll still send you a bill, though, and try to collect.

Here in Houston, the 'free' hospitals are NASTY, though, and I wouldn't want to be in them. Example: LBJ delivers about 1,000 babies a month. Men aren't allowed to be with the women, because they don't have enough rooms, and lots of women deliver in the hallways (read, no privacy). Recovery rooms have four women to a room, and visitation by the man is limited to 5 minutes.

Sure. You probably don't have health insurance because it's too expensive, but part of the reason that health care costs so much (and thereby health insurance) are all the people who receive care and don't have health insurance. It's ironic like that.
