Can someone who's not in the best of health still get life insurance?
I'm in NYC, 44 yrs old, have panic disorder (no meds), mild high blood pressure (taking meds), and asthma that doesn't bother me anymore except when I get the flu. I'm about 50 lbs overweight, though trying to lose( lost 25 lbs). I also quit smoking 4yrs this November. Is there any type of life insurance that I could be eligible for? I have 2 kids 19, and 10 (they are both insured).

Also, if I'm eligible, could I sign up online? I haven't a clue where to start.

You may be able to get insurance, but not without an insurance physical exam. You won't get the lowest rates, either. Forget the online scheme - you'll need to see an insurance agent or broker.

You can probably still get life insurance, but understand teh coverage you will be offered will not be as good as if you were younger with fewer issues. The policy may be delayed for full coverage for a certain amount of time. They would in that case offer you some coverage but until you pass the time limit your policies recepients would not receive teh full amount. You may be covered but have some conditions called pre-existing and no insurance coverage in the world you can afford will cover a pre-existing condition. For them to do so is just not cost effective. They are in the business to take your money and pay out as little and as infrequent as often as possible.

Yes you can still get life insurance. You may have a higher premium but you can get it. I can send an agent to your home, The agent would do a Free Financial Needs Analysis for you. Determine the amount of coverage you would need, ok the estimated payment with you. Take your application then. You would then get a phone call from the insurance company for the medical details. Once it is all set-keep in mind you are covered during this process-The agent will deliver it back to your home. Your All Set. I don't know about the USA, but in Canada you can get 'gauranteed issue' insurance. From what I've seen on TV you can get it in the USA as well. This type of insurance has no medical questions, you basically fill in your contact information and cut a cheque. This can be quite expensive becuase basically ANYONE can get this insurance no matter what your health condition is.

You make also be able to apply for regular life insurance as well. 1 of 3 things will happen:

1. You get approved standard issue. the health problems aren't a serious life or death risk.

2. You get approved with a rating. You problems increase the chance of premature death so you can get the insurance but it will got you XX% more than standard issue.

3. You get declined. Your health problems/situation heavily increase the chances of premature death.

Your best bet is to contact a liscensed insurance broker in your area. A broker will be able to access your situation and find a company who's underwriting proccess does not focus on the health questions you have concerns on. Don't shop online...call a broker...it's their job to shop it around for you. They will ALWAYS quote you a Super Prefered health rate, which is people that have barely ever had a runny nose, let alone a normal person with a couple health risks.
