Either that or a flat tax would suit me just fine. I'm not one of the rich, by the way. Just another person slogging along trying to make it in this world.
Its nice to babble about how the rich should pay more and all that crap but it really isn't true. Sure, they have more disposable income, if they have 20 times more disposable income they also pay 20 times more tax already. That seems perfectly reasonable to me. Why should they pay 30 or 40 times as much tax? Why do all these people want to punish a person for working harder or smarter or just being lucky? I think they are simply jealous and trying to steal from the successful ones.
Do you know how stupid it sounds to call a fair system of taxation regressive? It is not regressive to charge every person the same tax rate. It is wrong though to punish somebody or make them pay a higher percentage just because they can accomplish more.
The terms regressive and progressive are left over from the many failed attempts at socialism and are lies. The only system that is totally honest and totally fair and has a proven track record of success is capitalism. Socialism, which is the core of all liberal agendas is a failure every time. Those people live in a fantasy world and cannot accept facts. |

The proposed tax rate under a national sales tax was 23% in addition to the social security tax. Look at the effective tax rate for most middle and low income taxpayers and you will find that their income tax rate is less than 20%. Everyone wold enjoy a tax increase except for the wealthy who would have their effective tax rate reduced from 30% to 32% down to 23% and then only on what they spend not what they invest.
Young people starting out would be especially hurt because they are the ones spending to accumulate furniture, baby items etc. older people have already done this so a sales tax wouldn't be as bad. |

Sales taxes are very regressive, because everyone pays the same rate. However someone who makes 150K has more than 3 times as much money to "spend" than someone who makes 50K, because there is a certain amount of income that goes towards meeting the necessities. |

If you are low or lower-middle income, or even middle income with kids, you might not like the result, since you'd be paying more under that system than you are now. The rich would make out just fine with it. |

What about the old people who have paid income tax all trheir lives, now you want to make the sales tax high on everything, and take the rest of the little money they have.???
