If you lose your insurance due to quitting your job, that is a qualifying event and you can be added to your husband's insurance at that time without waiting for open enrollment. The baby can be added once born-you generally have 30 days to add the baby.

Group policies cannot consider pregnancy pre-existing.

By federal law pregnancy is not a preexisting condition, and group insurance has to accept you. See links below for text of the laws.

more info is needed. do you have insurance now?

as long as you have an active policy and transfer over to your husbands coverage there is no pre existing condition. there are federal laws that deal with pregnancy. the baby will be covered as well as it is not a dependent as of yet. remember to add the newborn within 30 days of birth. you do not need a ssn for the newborn to be added.

if you cancel your insurance you do not have to wait until open enrollment.

Depends...assuming this is group you'll need to wait until open enrollment to get on his BUT you'll also need to wait until open enrollment to get off yours.

You need to plan ahead for these things unfortunately. You may be stuck on yours and then onto COBRA until his open enrollment.

They will absoultely consider it a pre-existing condition because it IS a condition prior (pre) to getting the coverage. However, if it's group coverage it MAY be covered.

Call an insurance broker to help you out. If you deal with one on a regular basis then you already have a resource for help when you need it.

With most companies, you have to be on the policy for a minimum of 10 months before giving birth, for it to be covered. Try to check with the company without raising any redflags. Call and ask the company a general question without giving your policy number or any other information. They should be able to give you an answer.

You probably have to wait until open enrollment, to be added. They will HAVE to accept you, however, they can exclude pre-existing conditions, unless you have 12 months of prior coverage with a lapse of less than 63 days. For a group plan, if they offer maternity benefits, pregnancy is NOT considered a pre-existing condition.

Obviously, if the group plan does not include maternity benefits, they won't cover your prenatal/birth costs.

When the baby is born, that is a qualifying event, and you can add the baby to the group plan.

Keep in mind, when you add you, or the baby, to the plan, your husband will likely have to pay additional premiums for your coverages.
