If you're not dead, you shouldn't cancel it. It will be almost impossible to get back on it - you're eligible after going out on SSDI, and you're eligible to sign up when you turn 65. THAT'S IT.
In either case, if you ARE eligible for it, NO ONE ELSE WILL INSURE YOU, so, you want to cancel it and be uninsured? For what purpose? |

There is no cost out of your pocket for Part A medicare-that is the in-patient hospital coverage (if you have paid enough into it while you were working). If you are eligible for part B( the doctor and out-patient coverage) and do not enroll for it, for every 12 months that you don't sign up for it, the premium will be 10% higher. Currently the premium is $95.80 a month. Even if you are working, medicare would be secondary to your group plan and would possibly pick up some of our co-insurances for your primary coverage. There really is no reason to NOT enroll in Medicare and keep it once you are eligible. In fact, there are penalties if you do NOT enroll when eligible.

Are you disabled or retired? If disabled, you can not get it back until age 65, and if you are disabled I don't know of any company that would insure you. If you are retired why in the world would you consider dropping it? You can't buy anything else. |
