If you have sold the car - or can declare it SORN then you can cancel the insurance and get a refund - the exact amount depends on the initial premium and the insurance company's cancellation scale and any broker fees.
You will have to comply with the cancellation instructions given to you - generally this means writing a letter stating you want the policy cancelled, return the certidicate of motor insurance to the company and also ask for proof of no claims bonus. YOu do not have to give reasons why you wantthe policy cancelled but you will of course have to declare the conviction in a years time. When you need insurance go through a broker - they have the best cover, deals and policies and should help you better. |

You can cancel the policy, but I doubt they will give you a full pro-rata refund as there will probably be a cancellation charge deducted from the refund.
I'm concerned that a couple of people on here are saying you should lie about the reason you want to cancel the policy. When you get your licence back in a year's time, you will have to declare any convictions in order for your new policy to be valid, so you may as well tell the truth now. |

In general cases, there is a possibility for a refund on a pro rate basics. The best answer you will get is that you direct the question to the car insurance in which your policy have been taken.
It is a possiblity also for example you have sold your car; you can always make a claim for a refund throught an application.

Given your wording, I'm thinking you might be in the UK. If so, I'm not sure.
If you are in the US, insurance follows your vehicle. The only way you can cancel insurance on the vehicle is to remove it from the road. |

Only if you paid the whole year up in advance, not by installments... Failue to have claimed is not grounds for a refund, and you may find that you have agreed to pay a fee for cancellation (usually one months payment).
Ring your agent or broker, and ask them. . . But DONT mention why you want to cancell.... or they will mark it and remember that you got a ban, and next time they will bump up your premium. |
