Katherine W | Can you keep your children on your insurance even after they move out of your home? |
|

If they're minors, and legally dependents, yes. This is typical in divorce situations, where one parent insures the kids, even though they live with the other parent. |

If you are legally responsible for them as a dependent, they are not exceeding the age of 18, and if they are a full time time student. This, of course, should be confirmed with your insurance company to be sure. Hope this helps! |

It depends on WHAT type of insurance you are talking about. Car insurance should be no problem, but home owners insurance is different. You need to talk to the company about it, read your policy, it is in there. |

Speak with your insurance company and see if you need to change policy or make ammendments to it.
And make sure you get it in writing from the company.

First, read you policy. This question should be answered in your policy. Or, call your agent/rep. Some policies' coverage on children depends on the age of the child, whether they are still a student, which parent has legal custody if there was a divorce. |

different insurance companies may have different policies, so check with urs. Normally in most cases a child over 18 is legal age, therefore must get their own insurance. |

Best to check directly with your insurance company to be on the safe side...
I know that you can *usually* keep your children on your policy until they are 23 years of IF they are full time students (high school or college) and you can furnish proof of this to the insurance company. So if your child lived on campus or near their school, I'm almost positive they would still be covered. But to be on the safe side, give your insurance company a call. Better to find these things out now as opposed to when you have an emergency. |
