Yes, you can. But it can invalidate coverage. And it would really stink to be handed a $50,000 medical bill, unexpectedly. |

Here's what will most likely happen:
As long as you have "minor" health issues that are unrelated to smoking, the company probably won't find out.
But, if you come down with a health issue that is generally attributed to smoking, they will pull your application and see if you checked the "smoker" box - if you didn't the insurance company MAY say that you lied on the application and deny you coverage. |

Yes, but this is called insurance fraud. If you are a smoker and lie about it on the application then the company has a right to deny future claims, especially if the claim is a result of smoking. |

The company may or may not do blood and urine testing when they issue the policy, so they might not find out up front. However, in the event of a large claim, the insurer will send your application for review to determine if there are inconsistencies or unreported items in your application. These are grounds for rescission of your policy and you'll be left holding the bag.
If you smoke, you'll have to pay more $$ for coverage. Don't like it? then quit. |

Yes, you can lie about it, however, if the fact that you smoke ever ends up anywhere on your medical records, your insurance company can cancel your policy and stick you with all the bills. |
