Yes. This is a good idea, because then YOU have control over the claims submitted, and any claim payments would be payable to YOU, rather than your parents. |

Yes, you can purchase it, but why. If you are a resident relative, your stuff is usually covered under your parents homeowner's insurance. If you decide to go ahead and insure it separately, the cost for renter's insurance is pretty low, and, of course you are the named insured. |

Yes you can but there isn't any reason to do it. You are a resident relative in the household and their insurance covers you. If you want a renters policy, call an agency and take one out. |

For the life of me, I can't figure out a good reason to do so. They already have a homeowners policy, and unless you are needing to lower the deductible or increase the value of personal effects on there, it should cover your stuff.
The only way I can think of to accomplish it would be to present a receipt for the rental of a room (or whatever) to the insurance agent and see what happens. |

you can.. if you have property that you want to cover separately and don't want them to incur the cost... scheduled items, jewelry, antiques, etc..... If you are one to present a liability exposure not usual to your parent's home, then it's a good idea to have your own coverage.
ex.. your dog bites the neighbor's child.. your parents don't own the dog, you're an adult.. where is your liability coverage. If your parent's ins. co. wanted, they could deny the claim under their policy... Your parents could fight them on it.. but it would be easier to have a clear path to coverage. |

Yes, your aunt's insurance would cover your as a resident relative. But if your trying to be a good relative you should get your own. If there is a liability issue, let's say, meaning if you injure someone or damage their property and your found liable, having that on your aunt record of insurance could follow her. Insurance companies don't like liabililty issues.
Also, youre in control of the coverage, you know if its being paid on time and you know exactly what you have. |

Yes, it is a good idea to get your own policy. And, a renters policy would probably cost you $5-$10 per month. You may want to try a website that compares multiple companies at once to get you the best price. I am paying less than ½ after I did.
