If you're eligible for unemployment, you can work part time and get paid the difference between what you are making part time, and what your benefit would be.

Yes you can. however you must report that income.
And that will be deducted from your unemployment checks.

Yes, and I did, but you must report it to your unemployment office. I was layed-off for 3 weeks before I began a part-time job. I collected unemployment with the State of Illinois' blessing until I returned to my full-time job. In fact, my employer of record changed when I worked one 40 hour week at the temp job.

Yes you can even work full time. You may get caught though if your employer reports your wages to the IRS and then you could go to jail and/or have to repay what you basically stole from the government.

Don't feel too bad about that though--they steal from us on a daily basis.

Ask a lawyer. A great one is http://www.losangeles-employmentlawyer.com/ .

Perry Smith is very helpful... I highly recommend checking him out.

Barry auh2o
Absolutely. You can earn up to a certain amount, before you are penalized.
Your application for unemployment will tell you this.
You must report it.
For example, suppose your weekly benefit is $ 300.00 and you can earn up to $ 100.00.One week you earn $ 99.00. You still get the $ 300.00. The next week, you earn $ 150.00. Your $ 300.00 benefit is reduced by $ 50.00.
The next week you earn $ 400.00. You get no unemployment eck. The following week, you only earn $ 50.00. You get your $ 300.00 check.
So, yes, you can work part time, and it is in your interest to work part time if you can Call the state UC dept if you have any questions.

cindy
That depends if you are drawing unemployment already. if you are not then no. if you are then yes but what you make will be taken out of your unemployment checks and if what you make exceed your unemployment check you will no longer get one.

Yes, but you have to report how much money you make and the amount of hours you work. They will deduct that from what they pay you. You also have to pay taxes on the money they give you. You have to report that when you file taxes.
