Sure, as soon as you pay off the $3,000 you owe on the old one!

Only if you pay off the three thousand..You still owe the money...

Carman and Robscob are correct

You took the risk that you could have transferred to an insurance company. Now you lost the bet. You still owe the finance company $3,000.

Once you get your head above water, meet with an insurance agent who can tailor a comprehensive insurance program to cover all of your risks.

Good Luck

you asking the company about your car problem

You will be able to but it will be harder tryin to find a dealership that will let u finance another car.More then likely they will just add the 3000 on top of whatever car you finance.Just know your payments will go up becuz of this.

Maggie Jeans
Probably, but you will have to pay off the remaining loan. I am surprised that your insurance company made the change. Normally they notify the title holder of this kind of policy change.

You dropped your comprehensive insurance coverage to save money. You took a big risk. You lost. Now you owe $3000 to the finance company that insurance would have paid. You really didn't save any money at all. If you don't pay the $3000, your credit rating will be trashed, which means you won't be able to get a loan for another car.

Dropping collision and comprehensive insurance coverage is not real smart.

Marianne T
Not unless you can buy a vehicle and have the car dealership wind the $3000 you still owe into your new loan. Toyota will sometimes finance more than 100% of the vehicle. I hope you are still making your car payments even though you don't have the car. If not, you won't get bought for financing or if you do it will be at a very high percent because you would be considered a bad risk.

carman has the best answer and makes the best points.

Because you cancelled the comp coverage there is not coverage under the policy for theft or vandalism. This is the exact reason why lenders do not allow liability only policies. If there is a lender (I assume there is) I am suprised they have not come after you for full payment. Then again I guess they would allow you to keep making the regular payments until it is paid off.

If you tried to buy a new car and they ran your credit they could easily see you have another car loan that is not paid off....they may or may not care depending on how your overall credit score and your debt to income ratio.

Next time you get a car keep the comp and collision coverage but have as high deductible as possible (the most reasonable) to keep the premium down.

2nd carry gap insurance (through the lender) gap insurance protects you for this exact scenario. Say you owe more on the car then it is worth (financing and other fees add up) if the car is totalled or stolen then you only get what the car is worth but the gap insurance pays the difference of what the actual loan pay off is.

Therefore you are free and clear from owing the finance company/lender for a car you no longer own or drive
