Car Insurance increase after moving?
I have just moved house and my car insurance has increased by £160. I have only moved half a mile from my previous address. If I ask my insurers to provide justification and proof for this rise (ie - why the area is higher risk) are they obliged to provide me with it?
They tried that with me a few years ago. I called them and threatened to cancel and go with another insurance company. Said it was redic they'd even try to do that. They waivered it in the end. I tihnk they just try to find an excuse to up it thinking if you move house with the change of all other bills you wont think or have time to check car insurance

No, they do not need to provide you with the thousands and thousands of pages of actuarial data that shows the new territory has more claims than the old one - you probably couldn't understand them, anyway.
When you have a territory change, there's a rate change. It doesn't matter how far you move - at some point, there's going to be a line, and at one house it's territory a, and the house next door will be territory b. That's just the way it is.

See if you can get it cheaper from another insurer, if so tell them you're not happy and are going to move to another insurer and they will probably match their quote. Had this happen to me recently and when I phoned to cancel they said they would match the lowest quote.

they should... if the distance of driving is longer... if you have to park in the street instead of a garage... that all adds to the cost of the insurance as well... there are many things and scenario and situations that will cause the insurance to go up.

Threaten to change insurers, that normally kicks them. And if they don't reduce the price - move insurers for real. You're bound to find one at the same as the original cost or less.

Your new postcode will be responsible. But they may waive the increase if you are a goood customer.
