Car insurance policies?
i have just bought a car and i was going to start a policy with my dad as the main driver who already has another policy with another company with 10 years no claims. (on a seperate car). If i put him as the main driver can i use his no claims on my policy with a different company?

No. He has the no claims record, not you.

I wouldn't try to cheat your way around this one. Insurance companies have many people that do research into many aspects of the policies once a claim is filed, or once the renewal date is reached. If they find out you lied about who the main driver will be, they could void your policy for misrepresentation which will make it almost impossible to get quality insurance for a descent price in the future.

I would strongly discourage you from doing this!!

Traditionally no claims discount (NCD) is earned on each vehicle. Saves losing on one when you crash the other.
If he insurers the car in his name as main driver for you (apart from attempting to defraud the insurer) he will probably be offered an introductory NCD of two years. This will be his but certain companies allow this to be transferred to named drivers at a later stage providing they stay with the insurer. Many of these offers are withdrawn immediately for young drivers.
Simply put, insurers have been aware of this scam for a very very long time and want the premium for the risk. If you are insuring the car comprehensively then be VERY careful. Insurers are well within their rights to repudiate any subsequent claim.

probably not no the company will almost certainly insist the discount is not in use elsewhere.

in addition, this is known as 'fronting' the risk of the policy and is a form of fraud, if you set up your policy this way you are likely to have any claim repudiated.

in other words telling your insurer you dad uses the car more than you, purely to get it cheaper is a crime. if they find out they really wont like you for it and they can make it very difficult to get finance, insurance and even bank accounts if you are found out.

No you must earn the points yourself.

If the car belongs to you and you are the main driver, then you must not put your dad on the policy as the main driver. Otherwise your policy will automatically be invalid. Even if you did put your dad as the main driver, you wouldn't be able to use his no claims discount, as this can only be used on one vehicle at a time. You would need to start building up your own discount.
