the insurance may ask you if you have any photos of it as proof and they may send the photos off with a description of the ring to an approved jeweller for them to value it.

i work in household claims and have dealt with hundreds of claims for lost jewellery. we usually appoint a jewellery supplier or loss adjuster, depending on the cost of the item, to deal with the claim.

hope this helps, good luck xxx

I assume that the reason you do not have proof is that it was given to you by the person to whom you are engaged or married. That person should have proof of how much it cost. Except for illegal narcotics dealers, hardly anyone walks around with £2700 in cash. Your fiance or spouse probably paid by credit card and the credit card company could produce a record of the amount of the charge. The person certainly should have kept a receipt for a purchase of that amount.

yes but if you don't know the value and don't have a picture of the ring then you may have problems on a ring of that value it would have been better to take a picture of it get a valuation and insure it as an individual item you could go back to where it was bought and get a valuation and proof of purchase from them and all so if you bought it on credit card a statement from the bank may help good luck its not going to be easy

Well, for starters you are saying that you "lost" the ring.
That is negligence on your part, so your homeowners insurance will not cover that. Its in case of theft/burglary that your personal belongings would be covered. Now, for your ring, it will most probably not be covered even if it was stolen. Personal property coverage in a homeowners insurance policy generally covers things that do not have an "appraisable vaue". The ring Im assuming does, so it would have had to be added to your policy as a jewelry floater to be covered. If this is not the case, then Im almost positive that you are out of luck.

More basically, do you even have proof that it existed?
