Crazy Lady | Colections people off my back? Help!? |
Ok, in February of this year, I had to be hospitalized for 8 days. My insurance paid part of the ambulance fee, but I'm left with an outstandin balance that I cannot pay. I am on Social security, but this was before i got on medicaide, while I was still married. I only get so many dollars a month, which has to go toward my rent, my utilities, school, gas to get to school, insurance on my vehicle, and a small payment to my ex for that vehicle. I'm not on foodstamps just yet, so I also buy my own food. When I get done with all that, I have maybe 30 dollars to last me the rest of the month. What can I do about this? It's stressig me out. I'm not working, so I cn attend school, and get a better job. I don't know what to do! I just had surgery on my knee, which medicaide paid for, but still, I'm confused, and any help you guys suggest would be very welcome. Thanks!

At least Im not just sitting on my *** dong nothing and being an a.s.s unlike some one who answered this. I have had collectors in the past. They don't really have a leg to stand on. BUT they will badger you as long as you think they can. Let me explain: The company you may have owed, has written off the bill. They sold the list of uncollectables to a collector for 25-40 % so they can get something. Now the collectors try to get you to believe you owe them, and they add their fees, ect. They will lie continuously to you, producing ficticious attorney fees, court cost ect. If you ignore them, they will go onto some one else they can collect from.
There is NO debtors jail in the USA. I suggest changing the phone number several times, even changing addresses if you can. Other than that, throw away the notices, because you can not be forced to pay them, and it will only antagonize you to read them. |

apply for a student grant for school. They may pay for tuition, books and possibly give you a small loan every semester to help pay for housing, get grants first, they are free, then loans which you have to pay back after you finish school.
if you paid for food, gas, housing and school, and still have 30 dollars left thats good, send the hospital $5 dollars, it may not seem like much but it will keep your account from being sent to collections. Even if they call you and tell you that $5 is not enough, just politely say" thats all i can do for now" If they take you to court the judge will be much more favorable to you if you pay something. |

You write the creditor and tell they are not to write and phone you.
(make a carbon copy of your letter.)
You appear to be uncollectible. No wages or assets to attack. |

Have you asked them if it would be possible to set up a payment plan? How have you dealt with them so far?
As a poster above me stated, there are rules for collections, the big one being that you can stop them from calling you. But the debt will fall you, regardless. You need to work out a payment plan with them. |

Jeez, get a job like everybody else has to do. Why do my taxes have to go to pay for someone as yourself. Why do you believe you are supposed to get a free ride, I guess when you get this better job, you are going to pay back all that you borrowed from me and the rest of the taxpayers.Heck might as well get the food stamps too, then you can be a triple dipper. BUM! |
