COBRA establishes required periods of coverage for continuation health benefits. A plan, however, may provide longer periods of coverage beyond those required by COBRA. COBRA beneficiaries generally are eligible for group coverage during a maximum of 18 months for qualifying events due to employment termination or reduction of hours of work. Certain qualifying events, or a second qualifying event during the initial period of coverage, may permit a beneficiary to receive a maximum of 36 months of coverage. |

It also depend on the size of your company. Companies with less than 20 employees typically do not have to offer a COBRA option lasting 18 months. In that case it can be as little as six.
But remember - COBRA is only temporary insurance. You might be better off finding permanent coverage on your own assuming you are healthy enough to qualify. Also, an individual plan will likely be much less expensive than the COBRA option from work.

It's only good for 18 months, and it will cost you the entire premium, plus 2% for administrative costs. Usually, it's $350 a month for an individual, or $800 a month for a family.
You have to either accept or decline within 30 days of being offered it - and your employer has to offer it within 60 days. If you accept, you have to pay the premium back to the first day after you were fired. |

yes you can use COBRA providing you have been employed for certain amount of time. Its is very expensive, you might pay 150% of the premiums. it is a good option if you have no other coverage. If you have the option to change jobs you can use the HIPPA option and receive coverage right away even if you have pre-existing heath conditions |

Cobra can be really costly. You could try a short term plan which is perfect for people between jobs. You can get more info and sign up at www.ShortTermHealthPlan.com or calling 800.647.4589 |

Cobra is expensive but you can keep it for 18 months. You would be better off to get your own private insurance |
