Decent life insurance company?
Can anyone suggest a good life insurance company for me? I would prefer not to submit to a medical exam. There is nothing wrong with my health that I know of and I just want some basic coverage, not for any huge amount, in case I die anytime in the next 10 years.
Additional Details
It was a pretty general question. It's off-putting to have some dude I never met hit me up as a lead for his insurance sales business....yuck. I wouldn't even call the guy if I was in California.

There are a ton of factors that go into deciding on a life insurance policy and/or company.

The best life insurance company is one that will and will be able to pay your claim, when the time comes. (And you can find ratings for all insurance companies as far as their financial stability and ability to pay claims on the AM Best web site, see link below.)

On the other hand, there's a bigger question: what's the right life insurance policy for you? If you don't want to take a medical exam (which, by the way, usually only takes 10-15 minutes), then you'll be limited as to the amount of coverage you can get.

I can't recommend a specific company (actually, I could recommend a couple, but I wouldn't want to risk being labeled as someone trying to "sell" to you!)

So, since that's the case, the best advice I can offer is to call a local agent and ask for some quotes. Be forewarned, though: telling a life insurance agent that you don't want to do a medical exam may raise some eyebrows. And keep in mind, there's no point in bothering with life insurance if you knowingly misrepresent your health on an application (not saying you would, but it's important to remember that the company could decline to pay the claim if they discover anything that could be construed as untruthful about your application.) Also, remember that almost any company will require you to answer medical questions and/or require medical records, even if they don't require a paramedical exam.

A few things to watch out for: graded/modified benefit policies (they may be the only option for some, but shouldn't be for someone in good health), decreasing term (these are typically sold to cover loans on property), and guaranteed issue (these are typically offered to folks with few options and they generally state that you cannot be singled out for rate increases; however, you may very well see rate increases every year as long as they increase rates for everyone in your rate class.) Also, any company with a B or worse rating (or any with a "negative" outlook) on the AM Best ratings is one to avoid.

Got to take a physical for any good life insurance company, unless you want to pay high rates. All they do is check blood pressure , heart rate and take blood and urine if you ok then get insurance for half what you whould pay without one

Life insurance with cash value don't pay out cash value when you die! They say its a good way to build savings! How is that so if you lose it all and it doesn't go to anyone when you die? People say you can borrow it. Why do I want to borrow my own money that I paid for? Cash value = scams! Why don't life insurance companies keep the savings away from life insurance??

Talk to the guy you buy your car insurance from - odds are, he sells life insurance.

There are HUNDREDS of decent companies out there, you can always check the rating at AM Best, but if it's an A rated company, you're pretty safe.

You're pretty much going to HAVE to submit to a medical, in order to determine if you can get "good" rates. If you want a "burial only" type policy, that pays $2,000 - $5,000, with no medical, the rates are SKY HIGH in comparison to a rated term life, with $100,000 payout.

But your local, independent agent is the best person to go to, and THEY will do a comparison shop for you.

I think what you are asking is, "how can I apply for life insurance without taking a para medical exam." If that is correct you can qualify for the non medical if you apply within the non medical limits. The non medical limits vary from one insurance company to the next but they are all very similar.

The older you get and the more life insurance you apply for will dictate if there is non medical underwriting, that is no para medical exam. There are always the medical questions you must answer, if you want any decent amount of insurance. Some companies have minimum policy issue, i.e. $5000 with no medical questions but you pay a lot for these too.

If you are in California e-mail me and I can direct you to some information. If you are not in California I can still help you but each state has thier own insurance commissioner and different insurance laws and guidelines. If you want help I need to know your age and the amount of life insurance you are considering.

There are some very good companies, West Coast Life, First Colony, Chase, Banner Life and of course, the well know brand names such as New York, Met, Prudential etc.

I hope this helps you, good luck!
