Deductible question?
I am looking for my own health insurance. But can someone explain to me what exactly the deductible is?
If the deductible says $2000 does this mean if I break my foot or something I have to pay $2000 before the insurance pays the rest or does it mean they only pay the $2000?
The deductible refers to the amount of money that the insured would need to pay before any benefits from the health insurance policy can be used. This is usually a yearly amount so when the policy starts again, usually after a year, the deductible would be in effect again. Some services, like doctor visits, may be available without meeting the deductible first.

Yes. The deductible is the amount out of your pocket, before the insurance kicks in.

You pay for the first $2,000 and the insurance company pays for the rest.
Say you get into a car accident and your badly hurt. The total medical bill is $30,000. You would have to pay for the first $2,000 while the insurance company would pay the remaining $28,000.

The former. The deductible is the minimum amount that you must pay before they pay anything. They may or may not pay the rest. They may pay only a percentage. Read the paperwork carefully.
