Deductibles?
what do they mean on the insurance? does it mean I have to of paid that much with copays before they pay something?

micheletmoore
They are seperate form your Drs office CoPay it you have one. Thye are generally only applied to things that you have done at the hospital or outpatient testing. They can also include blood work and other tests done at your doctors office if he sends it out to a lab.

They are the amount you will have to pay before these charges will be covered in anyway. Once you have paid out your deductible the insurance will usually pay 80% until you reach you maximum out of pocket amount, then they pay 100%.

It depends on what type of insurance...If it's health/medical your claim must be at least say 500 before they cover any additional costs. ex: say you bill was 1500 and you yearly deductible was 500. Well they would pick up the additional $700 and any additional bills you may incur in that particular year with no cost to you.

Sugar
That means you must pay a certain amount before they Pay.

Ex; If you have a bill of $1000., the insurance company will only pay $750.

Yes, the deductible is the amount out of pocket you have to pay, before the insurance kicks in.

I guess some of us need to check our math $500 + $700 does not equal $1500.

Anyway, The deductible is the amount that you are responsible for annually before any insurance benefits are paid for that particular part of your coverage. Deductibles can be for hospital services only, up-front - include all areas of coverage, or even prescription coverage. Check the policy to make sure that you understand what the deductible applies to.

After you have met your deductible, then there may be co-pays or co-insurance that you would still be responsible for. Make sure that you know what your maximum out-of-pocket responsibility is, especially as it pertains to payments after you've met your deductible.
