I recently tried making an appointment at a local health center which employs about 30 different physicians. They assigned me to a doctor which Blue Cross Blue Shield of Alabama claims is not "in network", though many of the doctors there are.
The attendant on the phone at the health center is very rude with me when I try to get an appointment with an in network doctor, and tells me that they all accept BCBS insurance. BCBS tells me just because one accepts it, doesn't mean they are "in network". So do I have the right to request an in network doctor?? |

It's probably not listed because you will be seeing a resident who will file under a senior MD. I doubt they would lie to you. |

Yes, you do. Don't take the word of the attendent. If he/she is wrong, YOU will be liable for the additional cost.
Check with the insurer first to make sure the specific physician is in-network. |

you have the right to see any doctor you want. Just because they accept it doesn't mean they are in network if you go to a doctor who is out of your network you end up paying more out of pocket for the visit. |

It's not uncommon for different doctors to accept difference insurance. I've seen this happen before. You have every right to request a specific doctor because they are in network. (Keep in mind they must be accepting new patients).
BCBS is correct. It sounds like the attendant is lazy. Ask to speak with someone else and/or file a complaint. |

NEVER go by there word. If you want an accurate answer, ask to speak to someone in their billing department. They will tell you and that answer is one you should be able to trust. But if they all work under the same Tax ID than mostl likely they all accept that insurance. But just to be safe, ask the billing department. |
