Richard S. from Vermont | Do any employer health insurance programs let you insure your girlfriend even if you're not married? |

Yes, there are a few. However, you usually have to be living together with joint savings/checking accounts, just like you were married. |
|

?
 |
Highly unlikely. I have heard of health insurance programs where you can put a parent on it, if they are dependant on you for at least 50%. |
|

The First

No, only spouses and immediate family members |

Not generally.. Unless you to have signed a legal civil union agreement. This is a document that states that you are legally responsible for each other. Similar to marraige, but not quite. Your state would also have to have a law the enable insurers to offer this. Some insurers are progressive on thier own, so check your insurace details to see if this is offered. If it is. Look carefully into civil unions to see if that is the right choce for you. Ther are pros and cons to this. |

Yes, this became popular in the late 90's (pushed through by same sex couples screaming discrimination). The term typically used for this coverage is "life partner" or "domestic partner". Many companies offer it (Target, Neopost, Xerox to name a few).
