Do i get liability cover for people working in my garden or do i need insurance?
I have people working on clearing my garden . Am i liable if they have an accident or does my insurance cover it ? Are they suppose to insure themselves?
Household insurance usually covers liability of casual help around the house and garden. Check.

You should have property owners liability cover as part of your household building insurance so that if one of these people are injured as a result of your negligence they should be pick up by this cover.
If these people are bona-fide contractors and are not working under your direction, you should not need to worry about insurance.
If these people are labour only sub-contractor and for instance are using your tools and working under your direction, there may be an employers' liability risk.
My advice would be to make sure they are bona-fide contractors and check that the carry public/employers liability insurance.

If these are paid to complete this work then they should carry their own public liability insurance - it is the law.

Hopefully, you have checked their Business license. The company shoud also be covered by Workers Comp. They should also be bonded and insured. My Aunt hired a group of young men to do some work for her and they stole her credit cards and some checks out of her bureau then proceded to the casino to use it! (They did not have a business license.) Be wary!

You may well already have it as part of your home insurance, so check your policy documents or call your insurer. In reality though the people working in your garden should have their own business insurance - ask them. If they haven't got any insurance in place point them towards http://www.coverzones.com/. They can figure out what they need there and buy it in minutes.

Agree 100% with MacBeth, you're probably fine, but it's wise to check.

If the people employed by you are legal, (working for a company or self employed), they require public liability insurance.
If they are on the fiddle they are uninsurable as they are not legally in your garden working.
