juher74784 | Do i have to opt out of my companies health ins. plan? |
I have my own own health ins. but my company is forcing me to sign an opt out form because i won't sign up for their health ins. I don't like signing unnecessary forms and paperwork that my company doesn't explain as to why i need to sign them. I am just very skeptical about my company and how they operate. Can they terminate me for refusing to sign this? |

Yes, they can terminate you for refusing to sign. Opting out, is what gets them off the hook, if you later decide, "oh, I wanted insurance after all, and you didn't let me have it!".
It's a legal protection for THEM.
And once you decline, you can't "opt in" again, until open enrollment. |

Yes, you have to sign the form and yes, they can terminate you for refusing. |

They are asking you to sign the waiver to protect themselves. If you opt out, and you then have a major illness/injury and your non-company insurance won't pay, they don't want you coming back at them for health benefits you have clearly stated you don't want.
After all, you could be lying to them about having insurance at all. This is the only way they can ensure that the coverage is there. |

Sure, because naturally if you don't follow instructions very well I'd fire you too. Why do you work there?
You either have to sign up on the plan OR you HAVE to sign acknowledging that they've offered you coverage and you're waiving the offer.
Just sign the form or quit your job. |

You have to sign the form. This is proof that you actually opted out, and were not refused coverage. Otherwise, you could come back later and sue them for not providing you with insurance. (It doesn't matter if you know you would never do this, the company wants to be protected.) |

If you want to opt out, you have to do so in writing. That's what the form is for. |
